Eventually, the three men offered a budding railroad service right-of-way through their property. Railroad workers named a depot Wheaton Depot, marking the beginning of a new community. In 1859, Wheaton incorporated as a village. The Wheaton brothers successfully campaigned to move the DuPage County government seat from Naperville to Wheaton in 1867. Today, a complex on the west side of Wheaton acts as the central hub for DuPage County government.
