Roselle, Illinois is a village positioned in DuPage and Cook counties. It is considered a suburb of Chicago and is located within the Chicagoland metropolitan area. As of 2016, Roselle was home to approximately 22,814 residents according to the United States Census Bureau.
Original inhabitants of the site where Roselle is located were Pottawatomie Indians. In 1833, Silas Meacham and two of his brothers arrived in the area. The Meacham family claimed about 1,200 acres of land. In 1837, Elijah Hough arrived with his family. One of Elijah Hough’s sons, Rosell Hough, built a meat packing house on the site where Halsted and Orange Streets are now located. After Rosell constructed the meat packing house, he went on to serve in the Union Army. Rosell also served as the first president of the Chicago and Pacific Railroad Company. After Rosell returned and saw his home had developed into a thriving farming community, he decided to have a depot built in the community. This decision paved the way for the future growth and development of Roselle. Today, Roselle continues to grow in size and is home to modern-day amenities such as parks, the Roselle Public Library, train stations, and many shopping and dining opportunities.
Roselle is located in a climate that experiences very cool winters and warm summers. Throughout the summer months, daytime temperature highs range from the low to mid-80s on average. However, it is not uncommon for temperatures to climb to the low-90s. Residents of Roselle find it necessary to have central air conditioning units installed in their homes. Also, residents find it necessary to have heating systems installed in their homes. Temperatures throughout the winter months average in the low-30s during the daytime. Also, snowfall is common throughout the winter months.
