Itasca is a village located in northern DuPage County, Illinois. It is positioned within the Chicagoland metropolitan area and is located about 28 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Illinois. Itasca had a population of approximately 8,728 in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau.
Before Dr. Elijah Smith arrived in Illinois and settled Itasca, the area was occupied by Native American Indians. Eventually, Elijah arrived and began looking for a suitable site to practice doctoring, farming, and to raise a family. After Elijah cultivated a large portion of land, a post office was established in 1846. Many years later Elijah plotted 80 acres of his land into lots. He donated some of this land to the Chicago & Pacific Railroad. The railroad erected a depot in the 1870s. This brought many settlers into Itasca and in 1890, community members decided to incorporate into a village. Today, Itasca is home to outstanding residential neighborhoods, excellent schools, and beautiful parks. Individuals who visit the village will find many remnants of the past. The village has worked to retain its small-town charm by developing a beautiful historic district. Also, Itasca has easy access to downtown Chicago, one of the largest cities in the United States. In Itasca, there is something for every preference and type of interest.
Weather in Itasca varies greatly each season. Throughout the winter months, temperatures average in the low and mid-30s during the daytime. At night, temperatures dip well below freezing. Also, snowfall is common throughout the winter season. Residents of Itasca find it necessary to have easy access to efficient heating systems. Residents also find cooling systems to be necessary. Daytime temperature highs during the months of June, July, and August average in the low and mid-80s but can climb to the low-100s. When the warm and cool weather is present in Itasca, efficient cooling and heating systems help residents stay comfortable inside their homes.
