Bloomingdale is a northern Illinois village positioned in DuPage County. The village is part of the Chicagoland metropolitan area and is located about 27 miles west of downtown Chicago. At the time of the 2016 census, there were approximately 22,075 people living in the Village of Bloomingdale.
Original inhabitants of the area where Bloomingdale is located were Native American Indians. In the early 1800s, European settlers arrived. Village historians trace the founding of Bloomingdale to the Meacham family. In 1833, Lyman, Silas, and Harvey Meacham began to farm an area of 1,200 acres. The area is now known as Medinah, Illinois. In 1837, a post office was established on the 1,200 acres and eventually the villages of Bloomingdale, Roselle, and unincorporated Medinah became established in what is now DuPage County. Today, Bloomingdale is proud of its small-town atmosphere and modern-day amenities. Commercial, office, and retail development has sprung up within the village, providing residents with the best living, shopping, and recreational opportunities in West Chicagoland.
